Spice Rub for Steaks and Roasts

Spice Rub

Spice rubs are one of the many things that generate exceptionally high profit margins for food companies. Generally you can make two cups worth of spice rub in about five minutes for a total cost of ONE DOLLAR. Instead most people buy them at the store for $7 bucks for half of cup. It seems like an odd choice to me. You don’t even have to chop anything to make a spice rub. Not a thing. You just need a tablespoon measure and a mixing bowl. Really people, this isn’t rocket science.

Spice Rub for Steaks and Roasts (enough rub for eight large steaks)

  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon finely ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon finely ground white pepper

Mix all of the spices together in a mixing bowl. Rub on steaks or a roast and refrigerate for four hours before grilling or roasting. Extra spice rub can be stored in a cool dry place for many months.
