Bourbon Copper Top

by Rachel on August 9, 2013

I have recently discovered that I love bourbon. I have no idea how this escaped me for 49 years – but it did. New-fashioned takes on old-fashioned drinks are all the rage in Los Angeles. Every bartender worth his or her salt is experimenting with small batch whiskey, homemade syrups and bitters, and everything else you can possibly imagine in a drink (and then some). Once I discovered that I love bourbon and announced said love to my husband he immediately set out to create the perfect bourbon cocktail just-for-me. Here is the current iteration. I love it.

Bourbon Copper Top (makes one drink)

  • Two ounces good quality bourbon
  • One ounce fresh lemon juice (prefer Meyer)
  • 1/2 ounce agave nectar (available at Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Costco for starters)
  • Angostura bitters

Place the bourbon, lemon juice and agave nectar in a drink shaker filled with ice. Shake. Pour out the mixed drink, including the ice cubes. Shake bitters over the top (give it a good strong dose of bitters). Enjoy!
